This past deer season here in Missouri we were lucky enough to get our hands on a Knight muzzle loader to take afield.
We had requested a Revolution II with laminated stock in .50 caliber with stainless barrel for this field test and review.
Here in Missouri you can use a muzzle loader during the entire rifle season plus you have nine days muzzle loader only season
which gives you plenty of time afield if a muzzle loader is your chosen weapon. We received the Knight rifle about eight weeks
prior to deer season and was able to get in plenty of shooting at the rage before season began.
The first trip to the range we started at the 50-yard bench to get the feel for the gun and try different loads. The first
round we used 100 grain loads of triple seven along with 250-grain Knight bullet by Barnes. These are polymer tipped all copper
bullets with great expansion. These make for one accurate round. At 50-yards my wife and I shot three rounds apiece with 1
inch groups with no problem we then decided to try some 150-grain magnum loads and I was quite surprised there wasn’t
very much difference in impact of bullet or recoil. Of course with a black powder rifle it’s more a push than a kick.
We then took it out to 100-yards and shot several rounds and was still able to keep them within a two-inch group. That’s
not bad considering we were shooting without the aid of a scope.
After shooting at the range we got the rifle back home and tore it down for cleaning what a surprise to see how easy it
was to clean. The whole trigger assembly comes out in one piece for easy cleaning. The breech plug is also easy to take out
even without taking the trigger assembly out. And the barrel comes out by simply taking out one screw and one bolt. The whole
gun can be totally taken apart in less than sixty seconds.
Knight also sent some of there cleaning products to use and to say the least they work great especially the Knight EZ Clean.
A few quick sprays of this cleaner on all the parts and the powder residue just fell off. A simple wipe down was all that
was needed along with a couple of quick passes down the barrel with some cleaning patches.
The over all appearance of this rifle is perfect with the barrel and receiver fitting perfectly with the stock and fore
end. You can tell a lot of thought went into the design of this rifle. It also comes equipped with Tru Glo fiber optic sights
front and rear. And they proved to be tough while afield. I can say this because I hunt a lot of brushy areas here on public
land and I am always getting caught on brush and the sights held up perfectly. I might add that the receiver is pre drilled
for scope rings if you so desire to go that route.
Over all I am very impressed with the rifle from it’s looks and shooting ability and ease of cleaning you would be
hard pressed to find another muzzle loader that even comes close to this one.
