Pentax K20D review
By Stacy Ogle

In the past few months, we have been trying out the Pentax K20D. We had looked previously at other brands such as the Nikon D90 and a few of the Canon models. After doing some research on several brands and models, the Pentax line stood out above all the rest, due to its rugged build and weather resistant features. No other camera compared to Pentax for outdoor durability. First, from a price stand point the Pentax cameras are way above the rest of the pack when it comes to the features compared to the price. We chose the K20D DSLR model, the flagship of Pentax's line up. At 14.6 megapixels, it is the highest in its class. The K20D has a 3 fps shooting capability. These features made it a perfect choice for our needs here at WriteOutdoors.

One of the main features we were looking at was a weather resistant and dustproof camera. With most of our time spent outdoors, traveling gravel roads, the extra protection from dust was one of the main features that led us to the Pentax. Even in harsh conditions, we can continue to shoot. Seventy-two different rubber seals keep moisture and dust out of the K20D. Dust and grit in the lens had been a big problem with our cameras from the past they just would not hold up to the abuse of the outdoor life style we live and pursue. The K20D has solved that problem all together. The K20D is no lightweight. Pentax has built this camera around a stainless steel chassis. I like to refer to it as "the tank" because it just has that high quality feel to it.

The K20D also takes the best pictures compared to camera's we have used in the past. Equipped with an unlimited amount of features to satisfy the beginner to the seasoned pro the K20D has it all from point and shoot full auto mode to every setting imaginable on a camera. I must say I'm learning a lot more about taking pictures since we started using the camera several moths ago but with its easy menus and array of settings it is a pleasure to use. We have two lenses for the K20D an 18-55 for those normal everyday shots and a 55-300 for those far away shots of deer and other wildlife. Both lenses are high in quality and take extraordinary pictures. This brings me to another point, the K20D will accept all Pentax lenses from the past to present which is something the competitors cannot say about their lenses. The K20D also has shake reduction feature on the body so it also works with every lens Pentax has ever made. This is also just another feature the K20D has over the other camera manufacturers.

The list of features on this camera goes on and on but the most important thing I can tell you is the camera holds up under tough conditions. We have had ours out several times in the rain already, with zero effects on the camera or the pictures it takes. To see all the features of the K20D go to their website linked below.

We need to remember any of us that hunt or enjoy the outdoors a picture is worth a thousand words and is one of the main ways we like to look back upon our adventures along with family and friends. Using a high quality Pentax camera to record those memories is necessary. Who can put a price tag on the photos from those memories? Photos handed down from generation to generation; share memories of a lifetime.

Sometimes the weather just does not cooperate when we need to take those pictures but the Pentax K20D is always up to the task. To see the full line of Pentax cameras go to the link below.
