Kaz Zaway Review by Stacy Ogle

The Kaz Zaway arrow rest is the newest design to Vital Gears arrow rest line up. It’s the only true full capture drop away rest on the market. I would first, like to explain the mechanics of the Kaz Zaway rest .

While other drop-away rests on the market, say they are full capture by putting an arm over a prong style rest; the Kaz Zaway actually holds the arrow with no rattle or movement until you draw your bow (see pictures below.) As you can see in the first photo the arrow is held in place by two claw style arms that keep the arrow secure until you’re three quarters through your draw. Then the claws release the arrow and you’re ready for your shot with absolutely no contact with your arrow.

Believe me this is a stalking hunters dream rest. Being able to stalk without your arrow moving around, making noise and still have the benefits of a drop away rest, makes this my favorite rest to date that I’ve been able to test.

I had a chance to talk with Ben Afshari, owner of Vital Gear about the mechanics of the Kaz Zaway rest. Of course my main question was about the durability of the rest. The main moving parts on this rest are the launch claws that hold the arrow in place. Ben told me the average life span of these claws are around the 6000 shot range, of course these arms can be replaced if ever needed.

There is also another part on the rest that takes the most abuse. If you notice in the pictures above there is a separate flat shelf that the clawed arms set on which is a big plus on this rest also. Instead of the arms coming to rest on the bow shelf this rest has a built in shelf to handle this function. This shelf is made of a material that reduces noise to a minimum.

Ben also made mention of the speed in which the Kaz Zaway falls. Unlike other drop away rest on the market the Kaz Zaway uses the force of the spring as you pull back and put tension on it. It differs from rests such as the RipCord in which the only tension it has is the small internal spring that it uses when you flip the prongs up. That type rest does not have near the rate of drop as the Kaz Zaway has. According to Ben the Kaz Zaway has the fastest drop away on the market.

Setup for the Kaz Zaway rest was a breeze too. It took minimal time to adjust the settings making it ready to start shooting in less than five minutes. Another great feature of this rest is the arrow doesn’t make contact with the shelf. This is also another strong feature of the Kaz Zaway, because less contact of course means less noise. For my setup I tied the cord into the downward buss cord but the Kaz Zaway will work on any bow style out there whether it is a roller system or slide the Kaz Zaway will work.

Paper tuning my Bow Tech Admiral with the Kaz Zaway rest only took a few shots with minor adjustments to have my new setup shooting bullet holes through paper. I’ve had a chance to shoot about 300 rounds though the Kaz Zaway and I must say it’s the most accurate and quiet drop away rest I have ever shot.

Kaz Zaway has the only full capture rest on the market today. I recommend this arrow rest for all types of archery hunting. Visit the Kaz Zaway website today to see their full line of archery products.
