STACY'S ARCHERY TECH TIP

In this months tech tip I wanted to talk about cutting arrow shafts and building arrows. Most people and pro shop owners don’t do this. I always cut at least 1 inch off the nock end of the arrow before cutting it to length. The reason for this is to achieve arrow straightness. I have actually used a cheaper arrow or lower tolerance arrow on straightness using this technique and brought arrows from .006 tolerance down to as low as .002 tolerance. This is not to say this will work on every shaft but it does work on a lot of them.

One thing that you should also remember before installing nocks or inserts is this: clean out the inside of the shaft making sure all burrs are cleared away. As for installing the vanes always try to make sure you use a high quality glue and try to keep the distribution of the glue as even as possible from vane to vane. This will ensure your arrows are as balanced as possible. Little things like these can make a big difference especially on the longer shots you make. That kind if distance shot is where little things tend to show up.
